The article is dedicated to the centenary of Professor Olga Alexandrovna Nechayeva (1919– 2008), the first doctor of philology in the Russian Studies of Buryatia. It reflects the main stages of her creative career and the contribution she made to the development of the national linguistics. A graduate of Moscow Pedagogical Institute, she devoted over 60 years of her life to the Russian Language Chair at the BSPI named after Dorzhi Banzarov (BSU at present); she was the head of the chair for 15 years. In 1975 she defended her doctoral thesis “Functional-semantic Types of Speech (Description, Narration, and Reasoning)” and introduced the term “functional-semantic types of speech” into scientific use. In the 70s of XX century understanding the structure and the semantics of monologue speech based on a logical-semantic and functional grounds was innovative. The provisions of the theory of speech types have become the methodological basis for many scientific studies in the field of Russian philology. Olga A. Nechayeva created a scientific school. She studied the semiotic, structural and grammatical, lexical-semantic and pragmatic properties of the speech types.
