Annotation:
The article is devoted to the language universale — the category of modality in the modern Bur- yat language, the expression of this grammatical category with the help of the syntactic words — conjunctions. Buryat conjunctions as a means of expressing of modality are considered in com- parison with conjunctions in the Russian language, which is relevant in the conditions of Rus- sian-Buryat bilingualism in the Republic of Buryatia. The author comes to the conclusion that conjunctions, expressing modality, are less used than in Russian, and the author sees the reason for this is that the Buryat language is agglutinative, and the functions of conjunctions are often performed by adverbial suffixes, and this is shown by the examples of substitution of conjunc- tions ali, aad, хada, хerbee, haa, and others by the suffixes -aaad (-ood, -ӧӧd, -gaad), -n, -tar, -хalaar, -msaar (-msoor, -msеer, -msӧӧr), -хaar (-хoor, -хеer, хӧӧr), еtc. Summarizing what was said, the author notes the relevance and necessity of studying those changes and shifts, occurring in the Buryat language as a result of Russian-Buryat language communication, including in the field of expressing modality (transferring the meanings of Russian conjunctions with the help of the other Buryat syntactic words and desemantized verbs-copulas; transposition of tense and mood categorys — the basic means of expressing modality, etc.)
