Annotation:
The article deals with the phonetic component of sounding speech — the tempo of speech, one of the inalienable temporal characteristics of spontaneous speech. The speech tempo determines how quickly or slowly the words are pronounced and how distinct and clear they are to the listener. It is known that the speech behavior of any speaker varies depending on who he is talking and in what situation the conversation takes place. In this regard, the interpreter's speech is an interesting material for a phonetic research. Use of the speech tempo and competent distribution of the temporal components in intercultural communication are the key factors for effective communication. On the material of the audio fragment of the conference interpreter’s speech from English into Russian, the author studies the phenomenon of speech tempo, analyzes the changes of temporality on specific examples and reveals the patterns of their change in the spontaneous speech.
