We have studied the sanitary and environmental situation in the places of active use of mineral waters and therapeutic muds of cold springs in Buryatia, such as Buksykhen, Kuchiger spring for eyes (the foot of Barguzinsky Ridge) and Uta-Bulag (Nizhne- Orongoiskaya Basin). The article identifies environmental factors affecting the functioning of microbial community, as well as the physicochemical parameters of the investigated springs. An analysis of the distribution and abundance of indicator microorganisms showed that the waters of the springs used for balneotherapy correspond to the sanitary and bacterio- logical standards.
