The research is relevant due to the need for developing the voluntary carbon credit market in Russia in order to reduce the carbon footprint of enterprises. It is aimed at identifying the drivers of demand for voluntary carbon credits among industrial enterprises with significant negative environmental impacts. They involve the desire to improve ESG ratings, obtain tax benefits and government incentives, as well as the potential for collaboration to enter new markets, both domestic and international. We have used such primary research methods as an analysis of regulations governing the carbon credit market in Russia, and study of statistical data on the volume of voluntary carbon credits issued by enterprises. We have analyzed the efficiency of government support measures, in particular green subsidy and green mortgage programs. The research findings make it possible to identify the key drivers of demand for voluntary carbon credits and propose recommendations for improving government support measures for developing the carbon credit market in Russia.
