The article analyzes the development of renewable energy sector in the Russian Federation from a management theory perspective. We have carried out a systematic analysis of the institutional mechanisms of state support, identified the existing organizational and economic barriers, promising directions for scaling the industry amidst the global restructuring of the energy sector, and proposed models for improving the institutional framework for the development of green energy. Particular attention is paid to the capacity supply agreement program as a key tool for stimulating investment in renewable energy generation. The findings demonstrate the need to transform managerial approaches to the development of alternative energy, taking into account geoeconomic constraints and technological potential of Russian regions, as well as to create its own production base to ensure the technological functioning of the green energy in Russia.
