Mechanisms for Improving Government Regulation of Regional Development Based on Sustainability Principles

The article analyzes the mechanisms for governing regions from the perspective of sustainable development. Particular attention is paid to the structure of regional policy in the Russian Federation, its legal and regulatory support, as well as to the system of direct and indirect state influence. We have considered the role of strategic planning, interdepartmental coordination, and infrastructure integration in achieving balanced territorial development. The article is illustrated with diagrams that reflect the correlation between the components of sustainable development and the structure of regional policy, present a ranking of Russian regions. The findings allow us to conclude that the constituent entities of the Federation are key links responsible for the practical implementation of strategic objectives and ensuring balanced development of economic, social, and environmental spheres.
