The aim of this article is to research the functions of verbal phase in the developing of skills in foreign language reading and self-manage learning activity. Tasks that include verbal phase (verbalization), influence posi- tively not only for the awareness of educational activities, but also stimu- late the exchange of experience in the group, self-reflexion, and self- correction. Verbalization has an implicit monitoring function. Teacher, watching and analyzing the explanation of the students ways to work on a foreign language text, can control the level of development of skills in foreign language reading on the basis of independent educational- cognitive activities. As a result, the authors suggest a definition of the term « verbal phase» and formulate the functions of verbal phase in the developing of skills in foreign language reading and independent learning activity.
