The article examines various theoretical approaches to understanding the phenomenon of altruistic behavior, specifically the views of D. Hume and I. Kant as creators of the classical concept of altruism, the ideas of the proponents of post-anthropocentrism (A. Cera), kin selection (W. Hamilton), reciprocal altruism (R. Trivers), and effective altruism (W. MacAskill). Based on a synthesis of philosophical analysis and contemporary empirical research in evolutionary biology and behavioral economics, we have formulated the core tenets of a non-reductionist understanding of altruism as “extended rationality”. This interpretation allows for viewing altruism as a rational strategy for the survival and development of humanity as a species in the Anthropocene era — a period marked by intensifying global risks (environmental, technological, political, etc.) due to the ever-increasing anthropogenic impact on the environment.
