In the article, the authors describe the museum collection of Matvey Nikolaevich Khan-galov, an ethnographer, folklorist, and enlightener. A detailed description of the personal items of the researcher is given. Diary entries based on the results of a trip to the Baikal and Trans-Baikal regions are analyzed. In his expeditions, he studied the culture and life of the Buryat people, their folklore and beliefs. The museum collection is just a part of M. N. Khangalov, which is stored in the Museum of the History of Buryatia. In the Buryat Scientific Center, in the Regional Museum of Local Lore of the city of Irkutsk and in the State Archive of the Irkutsk Region personal items and diaries are also preserved.
