M. N. Khangalov’s diary of 1911 with a volume of 340 sheets is kept in the col-lection of Buryatia History Museum and touch upon three key topics: shamanism, school activities, everyday and social life of modern Osinsky district of Irkutsk Oblast.
In the article we have presented materials (pp. 1–202 of the diary, part 1) on daily life of Bilchir non-Slavic parish specialized school in Irkutsk Governorate (1890), where M. N. Khangalov worked from 1902 to 1918. Thanks to the efforts of Matvey Nikolaevich in 1905/1906 it was transformed into Bilchir Nikolaevsk two-class school with a 6-year course of study. The diary begins from June 12 (first note) and ends in October 31, when the school building was prepared for a new academic year. The notes have two clearly de-fined periods, determined by the style and rhythm of the description: unhurried vacation time and energetic, active, sometimes assertive chronotopes of the school year beginning.
In the diary M. N. Khangalov is be portrayed as a leader, teacher, specialist in teaching methods, public figure and a person who wholeheartedly cares about the future of the Bur-yat people.
The publication retains the punctuation, spelling and style of the original.
