The article deals with the network of regional natural monuments officially listed in the regional register of natural resources, located in the Central Ecological Zone of Lake Baikal (Russia: the Republic of Buryatia and Irkutsk Oblast). Based on an analysis of lite- rary sources, we have systematized unique natural sites by key profiles (geological, aquatic, botanical, zoological, and landscape) and their characteristics, assessed their role in scientific, recreational, and conservation studies. Particular attention is paid to sites of key importance for the conservation of biodiversity and the region’s fossil record.
