The article analyzes the state and development prospects of the criminal labour market in Russia, its structure and ways to counteract. In our opinion, criminal labour market acts as a structural element of the shadow economy, creating its own economic and social space, providing itself with the necessary infrastructure: communications, information, and other types of services. They include both shadow money flows and illegal mechanisms for providing workforce. The social composition of criminal labour force directly depends on the economic and social policies implemented by the state, since the most vulnerable social groups mainly turn out to be workers in the criminal market. The state’s fight against illegal activity is not enough to сounteract the growth of the criminal labour market, it is also the field of social policy, creating conditions for supporting people who find themselves in a difficult life situation. As a result we have come to the conclusion that the level of the shadow labour market in Russia remains quite high, but there is hope for its reduction in view of the recent legislative decisions.
