Annotation:
Based on the hierarchical principle of soil-geographical regionalization we sequen- tially chosen North Baikal and Transbaikal mountain provinces, and distinguish within them spatial boundaries of Eravninsko-Telembinsky south of the Vitim plateau (SVP) and Kizhinginsko-Shilkinsky mid-mountain north of the Selenga Highlands (NSH) of the soil region along the southern border of Transbaikal cryolithozone. Cross-spectrum analysis of small-scale maps (M 1: 3 500 000) allowed us to reveal mutually specific constitution of soils and climatic conditions, to determine the climatic range of soils and fields distribution in the coordinates of "soil-climate" system at the level of soil regions. For the search of new combinations of soil formation factors we used thematic maps of lithogenic and permafrost conditions, which made it possible to identify key transect polygons on different types of permafrost distribution with a contrasting soil cover.
