Annotation:
The article provides new information on the distribution and ecology of the great cormorant (Phalacrocorax carbo L., 1758) in the north of Lake Baikal and in the Upper Angara Basin. We have described the main habitats, feeding habits and biocenotic role of the birds. Considering the above, there is a reason to believe that in 3–4 seasons cormorants undermine the food supply in the affected zone by eating hatchling and nesting in trees. Being the hosts of helminths, ticks and other insects, these birds can be sources of harm to humans and animals. The waste products of birds in significant volumes get into soil and water, and this leads to biotic and chemical changes in the environment.
