Today Russia faces a challenge of sustainable economic growth. At the present
stage digitalization is the main engine for growth and development. It affects the competitiveness of all sectors, offers new challenges for business, and gives modern tools for both
identifying problems and solving them. The development of oil and gas industry in the
global digital economy requires sound investment policy. Encouraging oil and gas companies to invest in smart technologies should be an important part of the policy to promote digital development. It is emphasized that the large proven and potential oil and gas reserves
makes the Russian oil and gas sector particularly attractive as an investment target. The article presents new areas of investment for oil and gas companies and defines their role in the
development of this sector in the era of economy digitalization.
