The article analyzes the theoretical and methodological guidelines for research aimed at achieving the sustainability of functioning and developing socio-economic systems in the modern economic space. We have considered the methodological issues related to the refusal of the priority of maintaining a strictly equilibrium state, which misses an assessment of the dynamics and nature of the ongoing changes. The article presents models of the sys- tem’s equilibrium state. Each of the equilibrium states is determined by the nature and strength of the impact of changes and the limits of their permissible scope. The limit is set by both nature and science to ensure the existence of systems in the adaptation mode. We have mentioned common forms of limits, as well as the principles and tools for assessing the system’s state based on the theory of limits in economics and management. It is shown that in modern control theory the limit is a determinant of the process and system stability. Func- tioning and development of the system on the verge of order and chaos is the challenge to the theory of limits in management. For these conditions we have established the transition to robust control, which constructors, creating the robust stability, are robust limit, adaptive homeostasis (entry into the system) and robust homeostasis (exit from the system). The arti- cle presents a robust limit model. We have shown the principles that create the basis for adapting the system to robust stability by periodical assembling a "floating equilibrium" — a temporary attractor in the developed homeostatic space of the system.
