Annotation:
The article presents the results of an incisive analysis and interpretation of the term "sustainable development of the region", as well as the factors of sustainable regional development. Based on the study, we have found that higher education plays a significant role in ensuring sustainable development of Kemerovo Oblast — Kuzbass, stimulating the influx of youth, qualitative improvement in the population structure and innovative activity of regional enterprises. In turn, the sustainability of regional development determines the state of the higher education system: regional universities will become attractive for talented applicants and scientists, both Russian and foreign, only if the socio-economic, political, environmental conditions of the region favor the preservation and development of intellectual capital.
