The article presents an assessment the economic consequences of the introduction of a special regime of nature management in the Baikal natural territory in relation to the mineral resource sector of the Republic of Buryatia. We substantiate the necessity of using input-output models to determine indirect losses in gross output, reduce of tax revenues, and decrease in employment. The article describes the methodology for calculating the decline in macroeconomic indicators by type of economic activity based on a classical input-output model and a model of total costs. We calculated the economic wastes of the Republic of Buryatia associated with the refusal to implement large investment projects in the mineral resource sector that had not passed an environmental review. The article presents the results of calculations based on two models in the context of 15 types of economic activity. It has been concluded that the total wastes in the economy of the Republic of Buryatia associated with the underproduction in mineral re- source sector are significant. We have revealed considerable differences in the values of economic waste indicatots in the input-output models under consideration.
