The article deals with the development of rural areas in Canada. This country has a large territory, and its significant area is allocated for agriculture. The products of Canadian farmers are highly competitive in the world market; this is due to the measures of support provided by the state to farmers. In addition, Canada has a number of key strengths that make it a leader in food production and processing: rich land and water resources, low popu- lation density, access to international markets, strong research and development capabilities. At the same time, the rural areas of this country have a number of unresolved issues related to increased unemployment, a decrease in the income level of the population, as well as to the outflow of residents to urban settlements.
