The article considers the main approaches to estimating the environmental friendliness of house building in Russia and abroad. The relevance of the ecological performance of hous- ing projects, on the one hand, is associated with the significant environmental impact of this sector — the World Health Organization refers construction to one of the dirty industries; and on the other — with the necessity for meeting the needs of the population in safe and comfortable housing. We have substantiated the special urgency of this problem for Baikal natural territory in whole and for the significant part of the Buryat Republic, in particular. The environmental concept for development of construction industry is emphasized as a promising direction, because it involves the construction and operation of buildings with minimal impact on the environment — green construction. The article considers the features of international systems of environmental certification BREEAM (BRE Environmental As- sessment Method) and LEED (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design), the Rus- sian national system for voluntary certification of real estate "Green Standards"; review the Russian regulatory framework in the field of environmental housing construction; identify the problems of introducing environmental friendly construction in the Russian Federation. We have proposed a system of measures to support green housing construction which will increase the investors' interest.
