Annotation:
The article reviews the modern Buryat poet Bair Dugarov's bilingualism on the material of his diary book "The Sutra of Moments" (2010). Following the author of the book, bilingualism is defined in the worldview aspect: as the unity of Eastern and Russian (European) consciousness in the personality of the Buryat poet who writes in Russian. Writing in a non-native language and realizing his involvement in Russian (European-type) culture, Dugarov remains loyal to his mental community (East-Asian type). His diary book provides fertile material for explaining bilingualism as the existence at the junction of two (or rather, several) traditions, but its unique appearance is created by an awareness of primor- dial national identity. The book is distinguished by a peculiar interweaving of prose and poetry, where the prose part of the diary is invariably supplemented, commented, comprehended by poetic statements. The general idea of the diary book by Dugarov lies in the need for self-knowledge, self-determination of the poet who lives at the crossroads of cultures.
