Annotation:
The article describes the speech portraits of the characters in “The Foundation Pit” story by Andrei Platonov as a means of their artistic portrayal. It has been established that, in «Котлован» general, the “The Foundation Pit” story is not focused on the “voice” of any character and is sustained in the same style of some kind of “popular philosophizing”. With the help of speech portraits, Platonov portrays his characters as typical people of his era, when an in- dividual is not perceived as a person who is the creator of his life, but only as part of one system common to all. The writer not just imprinted in his heroes generalized individual human qualities, but was able to give them a symbolic expression of the most important social and philosophical phenomena of modern times.
