Annotation:
The article reviews the interpretation of the Parable of the Prodigal Son motives in the novel “Thief, spy and murderer” by the modern Russian writer Yury Buida. The relevance of the analysis is due to the novel's problematics, in which the son-father conflict is plot- generating, realized through the motives of care, return, forgiveness, and love. An analysis of the novel by Buida makes it possible to talk about the special dialogical relations of the modern artistic consciousness with the text of the Gospel parable. In general, in addressing the plot of the Parable of the Prodigal Son, the writer models a well-known solution to the conflict of generations, actualizes deep sacral meanings, and also implements individual author’s metaphors of finding one’s own identity.
