CHRISTIAN CODE OF THE NAME SOFIA IN THE NOVEL «THE TIME OF WOMEN» BY ELENA CHIZHOVA

The authors review the Christian component of the heroine's name in the novel «The Time of Women» by Elena Chizhova, which allows to enter a wide field of Christian motives in Russian literature. Despite the fact that Elena Chizhova is a modern writer, her appeal to Orthodox truths is deeply respectful. In «The Time of Women», the writer pays special at- tention to the choice of a name for the heroine before the sacrament of baptism. The name given by the mother – Suzanne – is rejected, while the name chosen according to the Ho- ly Calendar – Sofia – plays a huge role in the formation of the girl's character, predicts her fate. From a dumb girl, she turned into an artist, creating non-standard paintings that re- semble icons. The heroine is depicted in a special world of spiritual values, engaged in an internal search for truth.
