Annotation:
The article discusses the development of language legislation in Russia in order to determine the potential place of guarantees for the preservation of linguistic diversity in the system of Russian legislation. We have analyzed the laws and regulations that re-flect the key trends in the development of legislation and define the place of linguistic di-versity in the Russian legal and political discourses. Legislation is not only a result in the form of laws and regulations, but also a process expressed in the stages of lawmaking and law enforcement, as well as in best court practice. Legislation also establishes general pro-visions that may involve ideological principles. That is why in the theories of language a distinction is made between the study of official policy, which can sometimes be reduced to the official ideology, and de facto policy, which involves the real consequences and re-sults of the policy pursued.
