Annotation:
The article deals with the conceptual fundamentals of fostering ethnic tolerance in
senior preschool children within the framework of public education. We made a distinction
between theoretical approaches to this problem in the Russian and foreign
researches. The mechanisms and conditions for development ethnic tolerance, formation
ethnic identity of children in poly- and mono-ethnic educational environment
were analyzed. Our study indicated some negative effects of modeling learning environment
by modern educational institutions, such as lack of teachers with the sufficient
level of ethnic-cultural competence. The empirical research data showed the
potential of parents and educators in fostering ethnic tolerance in senior preschool
children under the conditions of polyethnic educational environment.
