Annotation:
Understanding and proper interpretation of media text present a serious problem for
EFL learners because the perception of facts that represent a foreign culture in the
text is determined by differences between native and alien cultures. This problem
becomes especially important due to the increasing role of media discourse and the
need to develop media communicative competence of a future linguist to achieve
the objectives of vocational education.
The article presents the stages and the system of learning activities to develop the
media communicative competence on the basis of discourse reconstruction technology
for EFL learners. The purpose of this technology is to teach EFL learners to fill
in cultural gaps on the basis of information keys that can be found in media text and
references to the information sources. This will provide deeper understanding of the
text and its further adequate interpretation. The specifics of the technology lie in
gradual (from the global level to the local level of culture) discovery of the certain
layer of a foreign culture on the basis of media text.
