Annotation:
The article considers the age peculiarities of badminton players in China. The relevance of the study is determined by the need to forecast there athletic performance. Badminton as a kind of sport requires complex approach to developing athletes’ physical qualities, which are formed not simultaneously, but with consideration for sensitive periods of age development. All this must be taken into account in the process of long-term training for badminton players in China.
The research allows us to reveal age peculiarities of sportsmen. We have used the following methods: analysis of literature sources, questioning, expert survey, etc. Several age character- istics of athletes are revealed in long-term training: the age of the beginning of training, the age of achieving maximum results, the age of leaving the sport, and the total length of sporting career. The study have showed that the most suitable age for starting badminton classes in China is 7–9 years old for boys, and 6–8 years old for girls. Maximum athletic performance is achieved by men at the age of 20–29 years, by women — at the age of 21–29 years. The average period of long-term training for badminton players is 18,5 years. The age of sporting career endings is 28,2 years.
