Annotation:
This article contains information on the state of women's vocational training in the second half of the 19th — early 20th century and the events that contributed to its spread in the territory of the Russian Empire. The author refers to the analysis of the literature of the period under research to reflect the sentiments prevailing in Russian society regarding the issue of the acquisition by women of both education in general and vocational education in particular. The article deals with the information on the first professional women's educational institutions located on the territory of the Russian Empire; the information is provided on the diversity and conditions for acquisition of professions by Russian women in the post-reform period. A conclusion is made about a new stage in the development of the system of female vocational education in the Russian Empire, the need for the Russian woman to take an active role in society.
