Annotation:
On May 29, 2019 Buryat State University held a scientific conference dedicated to the 95th anniversary of Professor, Doctor of Philosophy Vladimir Iosifovich Zateev.
The reports of the conference reflected the significant contribution made by V. I. Zateev to the development of the most important issues of national relations in the Soviet Union. V. I. Zateev thoroughly investigated the essence and concept of a nation, the patterns of rela- tions between ethnic groups and nations in various historical conditions. Vladimir Iosifo- vich paid special attention to the socialist nations, which bypassed the bourgeois stage of development, their specificity and differences from the bourgeois nations.
A large number of reports concerned V. I. Zateev’s multifaceted activities as a scientist, educator, creator of scientific schools, and a public figure. The participants of the confer- ence emphasized that the results of Professor V. I. Zateev’s scientific researches and dis- coveries are of lasting importance, help modern scientists and politicians to understand better the national sphere and ensure its effective regulation.
