The article analyzes the correlation of liberalism and traditional Confucian ethical thought in South Korea. We have traced a rocky road of incorporating liberalism into the tradition- alist society of the Republic of Korea, and come to the conclusion that over the decades of South Korean independence liberalism completely adapted and took foothold in it. Now, liberalism in deed limits the sphere of influence of the state and its institutions on a person, protecting human rights and freedoms on the basis of constitutional grounds. The article makes an attempt to identify and explain the reasons for such an effective liberalization in the Republic of Korea.
