Annotation:
One of the most mysterious and complex linguistic and cultural phenomena is emptiness, since ancient times unusual and sometimes mystical properties have been attributed to it. Outward things have always been full of secrets and mysteries for a human, many of which still remain unsolved. Unavailable to direct observation and, thus, to adequate cognition and explanation phenomena have been comprehended by means of surrounding realities and reflected in mythopoetic, religious and philosophical views of the people. Such an attitude towards empti- ness has given rise to various concepts of the studied phenomenon. In the article we studied the history of formation ideas about emptiness from mythological beliefs to modern scientific con- cepts and analyzed the process of emptiness understanding in different areas of knowledge such as ancient philosophy, mathematics, existential psychology, Buddhist philosophy, quantum physics. We also considered actualization of these representations in the language.
Keywords:
emptiness, chaos, Śūnyatā, physical vacuum, zero, existential psychology.
