The article considers the role of social fanaticism in the era of globalization. Fanati- cism is understood as a phenomenon characterized by joint action of personal existen-

tial, cultural, worldview and sociopolitical factors. It is noted that the sources of fanat- ical consciousness and the prerequisites for creation of its institutional forms are root- ed in the problem of overcoming modern social crises. We believe that the predicted by P. A. Sorokin transformation of mankind can become a basis for preventing fanati- cism at the social level. The combination of social and economic conditions, which are conducive to the violation of personal integrity, estrangement of a person from true self-actualization, value standards of consumerist society, unresolved social and per- sonal conflicts creates an interconnected complex of factors forming modern fanati- cism. Overcoming fanaticism, the related extremism and terrorism is based on discov- ering the ability to altruistic love as a social and personal ideal.
