Annotation:
The article discusses the essential characteristics of emptiness as one of the most impor- tant concepts in Mahayana philosophy. We have specified the significance of emptiness in philosophical and soteriological conceptions of Mahayana Buddhism, its place and role in prajnaparamita texts. The logical link of emptiness with such concepts of Budd- hist soteriology and philosophy as Prajna, Paramita, enlightenment, nirvana, tathata was established. We analyzed different viewpoints of prominent Buddhologists on the nature and content of this concept.
Keywords:
emptiness, Prajna, Paramita, Shunya, Shunyata, enlightenment, nirvana, suchness.
