The article deals with the problems arising in the process of development, imple- mentation and application of artificial intelligence (AI) systems in agriculture. To study the operational experience, we have discussed various theoretical approaches to the definition of the concept of artificial intelligence, as well as individual results of the discussion on the classification of the main types of AI that have developed in modern scientific literature. In our opinion, currently within the framework of scientific research we can speak only of the so-called narrow AI, i.e. systems designed and created to solve the specific practical problems. Application of AI in the agro-industrial sector has two main versions: software and robotic systems. We have considered some examples of successful introduction of such sys- tems in the agricultural production process. However, as the operational experience has shown, the use of AI in agriculture along with the obvious advantages, also gives rise to a number of specific difficulties which overcoming requires a separate research.
