Annotation:
The article explores three key aspects of Japanese environmental ethics. The first aspect concerns the division of environmental problems into “global” and “local” and emphasizes the importance of combining global and local perspectives in solving environmental issues. The second aspect focuses on the distinction between “material and quanti- tative” and “spiritual and qualitative” environmental problems, emphasizing that consideration of environmental problems should involve both aspects. The third aspect is related to the methodology for solving environmental problems and the interaction of “socialinstitutional” and “individual-ethical” approaches in the context of sustainable development.
The article also pays attention to the changes in Japan's attitude towards environmental sustainability, as well as to the importance of a balanced approach to solving environmental problems that involves both individual and social efforts. We emphasize the importance of environmental ethics in the context of sustainable development and Japan's commit- ment to environmental sustainability through a combination of traditional wisdom and modern technology.
