The authors analyze the specificity of the development of the ethnic issue in the works of V. S. Solovyov from 1883 to 1891. The philosopher recognized national uniqueness as valuable, considered nationality a positive force, and predicted the longterm existence of differences between peoples. At the same time, he emphasized the spiritual kinship between them, the unity of the lofty destiny of all peoples, which consists in serving the universal idea common to all. V. S. Solovyov advocated for peaceful and harmonious interaction between peoples, criticizing nationalism as national selfishness and the pursuit of base interests. The thinker called on nations to be open so that their national self-awareness remained a creative force rather than sinking into self-satisfaction and self-adoration. He noted the Russian people's freedom from exclusivity and their ability to unite disparate factions, without expressing any distrust towards other peoples. The cycle of articles on the national question vividly demonstrates the moral dominant inherent in Solovyov's work.
