Annotation:
Due to the fact that there is no consensus of researchers in determining the genre variety of Buryats‘ myths and legends, we focuse on the clarification of terminolo- gy to describe their genre nature. The classification of these genres of Buryat folk- lore continues to be the most difficult issue. The article summarizes the theoretical developments and research in characteristics of rich not fantastic prose Buryats, the accumulated practical experience in definition of its components genre variations, highlightes and describes the specific features. We conclude that despite the com- plexity of legends differentiation their common story lines, coincide motives allow basing classification on identification of the system of characters, artistic and aes- thetic functions.
