Based on the method of philosophical reflection and the historical genetic method we have investigated evolution and trends of neo-Byzantium and archeoavantgarde in Russian social and philosophical thought, using as examples the journalistic texts. The basic range of philosophical ideas of neo-Byzantium, prospects for the development of this trend are revealed. Neo-Byzantium is represented as a center of resistance to the society of total nihilism, into which humanity is descended, es- pecially Western society. At the same time the philosophical thought of the neo- Byzantines raises the geographical position of Russia to the level of a symbol of the highest order. According to a number of critics, this strategy is presented as a formula of catastrophe, since the path of Eurasianism is the way of eternal confron- tation, propaganda of Kwasnoy patriotism and policy of isolationism.
