The article presents a retrospective analysis of the cases with phlegmons of the maxillofacial area treated in the Department of Maxillofacial Surgery for the period 2012-2016. Frequent nosologies, their complications and the shortcomings of the bacteriological method of investigation for detecting etiologically significant microorganisms in the patients have been identified.
