PREVENTION OF TERRORISM: THE EXPERIENCE OF THE NORTH CAUCASUS REPUBLICS

The article presents the main results of studying the practice in the field of prevention of extremism and terrorism in the republics of the North Caucasus. Compared to what it was 5–10 years ago, currently we can observe a return to normal socio-political conditions. The study is based on the analysis of a wide range of empirical data obtained during work with regulatory and conceptual documents, as well as on the press review and research (expert) interviews. We have come to the conclusion that the current successes of the state in preventing terrorism in the North Caucasus result from the continuous perfection of anti-terrorist legislation, improving the quality of interdepartmental cooperation on all issues related to the fight against terrorism, focus on targeted work on the prevention of terrorism, as well as involving wide public circles in this activity. Based on the results of the study, we have formulated the basic principles of the functioning of the regional system for terrorism prevention, which is applicable to the conditions of the North Caucasus republic with a predominantly Muslim population.
