The article presents the thoughts on the reasons for the internal migration of peo- ple to central Russia. The study is based on more than 30 semi-structured interviews with highly qualified specialists who decided to change their place of residence and chosen for this purpose a megacity of Moscow.
We believe that along with the studied and well-known reasons for internal migration, such as labour and career motives, there are also little-studied ones — the aspirations of “mi- grants to the historical homeland, which was lost for one reason or another by ancestors of today's out-migrants. To a greater extent we are interested not in the economic or environ- mental component of the reasons for moving, but in the structure of motives associated with changes in the way and pace of life and accompanying changes in life strategies that allow the most effective adaptation to new living conditions. We focus on internal feelings of a person anticipating the moving, and not on external reasons. In addition to conducting semi-structured interviews, we have studied public pages and websites dedicated to out- migration to Moscow.
