Annotation:
The work presents a definitional analysis of dictionary definitions of the name of one of the entities of the Buryat linguistic culture — the concept of "talaan". Explanatory dictionaries of the Buryat language, Russian-Buryat explanatory dictionaries and phraseological dictionaries of the Buryat language served as a source of factual material.
Observations are made about the seminal variation of the name of the Buryat concept against the background of its definitions. The material of the dictionaries allowed us to recreate the common model of name of the concept of “talaan”. It is confirmed that the nuclear semantic attribute is seme “luck”. The author suggests that the word talaan demonstrates the dynamics in the development of the family set. The emergence of new meanings as a result of metaphorical transfer may serve in the future to transform the semantic structure of the representative of the Talaan concept. Moreover, it is quite possible that it can become the name of another concept — the concept of “fate”.
