The article reviews the ways of depicting reality, which unite Che- khov`s works about people`s life with the prose of peasantry writers- naturalists of the 1880-1890s. The emphasis is made on naturalistic ways of depicting country life and peasants` images. Chekhov’s differ- ence from writers-naturalists is shown.
