Annotation:
The article reviews the image of a mysterious black monk in A. Che- khov’s “Black Monk” in comparison to typologically close image of the Black man from S. Esenin’s “Black Man”. Comparative analysis allows to find similarities between these two images as representation of demonic origin in the fate of extraordinary people, and difference in the main conflicts development. In contrast to Chekhov’s story hero the lyrical character of Esenin’s poem is able to oppose dark powers due to his artistic gift.
