The article reviews the question of originality of perception of Chekhov’s personality and work in literature portraits created by V. G. Korolenko and U. I. Ikhenvald. Portraits similarity stipulated by the critics’ desire to penetrate into essence of the writer’s inner world according to their aesthetic settings is revealed.
