ORIGIN OF MARRIAGE AND FAMILY: SIGNIFICANCE OF RESEARCH YU. I. SEMENOVA

The article is devoted to the analysis of the theoretical provisions of the work of Yu.I. Semenova «The Origin of Marriage and Family» in the aspect of the historiographic review of studies on the genesis of this most important social institution. An attempt was made to determine the significance and place of work of a Russian scientist in modern studies on the genesis of social institutions, law and the state. An assessment is made of the relevance of his findings on the prerequisites for the emergence of the first forms of social regulation (hunting and sexual taboos, exogamy), dual clan marriage, and double marriage. Particular attention is paid to the scientist's views on identifying the essence of the first marriage and family norms and their importance for sociogenesis.
