In the genre of the popular science essay, the impressions and results of a search expedition
to collect unique plants of the flora of Buryatia with the aim of creating the Baikal Garden of
Endemics are presented. Preserving the gene pool of rare plants of Baikal and Transbaikalia is
a strategic task in the global problem of preserving the biodiversity of the Planet. The article
provides brief information on the main results of the expedition to the Barguzin valley of the
Baikal region in the summer of 2001. The finds of rare and endemic plants of the Barguzin
valley, such as Artemisia subviscosa, Bromopsis korotkiji, Sedum ewersii and other species
are emotionally and lovingly described in the work. The author also raises impotant issues of
protection and rational use the rich flora of Baikal region.
