Annotation:
The article deals with the features of environmental education for sustainable development in the context of continuing vocational education. Inclusion of the ideas and values of education for sustainable development reflected in domestic and foreign scientific research, interna- tional documents into the content of continuing vocational education will help to achieve the main goal of a new educational trend, namely, the development of crosscutting environmental competence of teachers.
It is concluded that environmental education for sustainable development contributes to for- mation of mindset and new professional thinking of teachers in the fast-paced world. Envi- ronmental education for sustainable development acquires a new connotation, which is asso- ciated with the actively introduced competence approach to teaching, particularly in the field of continuing vocational education.
It has been proved that environmental education for sustainable development results in devel- opment of crosscutting environmental competence of teachers. We have introduced this con- cept in the process of scientific search as a set of interrelated ecological components of all groups of teachers' competence. The process of developing environmental competence of teachers include the formation of basics of environmentally oriented professional worldview, positive changes in the sphere of personality values and senses, acquirement of the environ- mental norms and requirements.
